Domaine Vincent Girardin 1999 Maranges 1er Cru Clos des Loyeres

Bright, mid-depth robe, slight amber edge. Nose initially fungal but blows off and fruit emerges – lovely florals. Age showing but elegant, delicate florals and red fruits. Palate reflects nose: fruit, florals with forest flavours. Mid length finish. Nice wine. Decant this one. Maranges, Burgundy, France 16/20 [tasted 10-06-2011]

Bouchard Pere & Fils Monthelie Clos les Champs Fulliot 1999

Medium deep red robe with browning edge. Touch hot on the nose; cedar, dark cherry, slightly meaty. Drying tannins up front, but full and round with warm mushroom, cherry and wood notes. Tannins dominate on finish. Past its best – aging gracefully though. Monthelie, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France 16/20 [tasted 14-11-2010]
