Ch d’Agassac 2000

Deep garnet with a touch of amber on the edge. Cedary chocolate with a hint of forest floor and smoke on the nose. Quite a big wine but a touch hot and tannic is the initial palate impression; nice secondary cedar and forest development and good ripe plummy fruit with cassis notes. Good long finish. … Continue reading

Ch L’Evangile 1994

Mid-red robe with just a touch of amber. Forest floor, a touch of lanolin, dark plums. Palate at first green and tannic with the fruit there but struggling to show. In the glass, though, it opens and the fruits leaps out and this becomes a different wine showing sweet smoky red fruits. Finishes long and … Continue reading

Ch d’Agassac 2000

Ch d’Agassac 2000. Mid-deep red almost to the edge. Forest floor and fresh earth with some lanolin too. Big wine but in balance, with gentle acid and smooth tannins, but the fruit has faded. A touch green on the finish and lacking fruit. Score reflects what it is rather than what it was. Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux, … Continue reading

Ch Segur de Cabanac 2000

Mid-deep red with just a hint of brown. Touch of lanolin with lovely forest mushrooms, sweet blackcurrants and blackberries. Mild palate of ripe fruit and silky tannins. Black fruits and berries linger on the finish. Very good red. Saint-Estephe, Bordeaux, France 17.5/20 [tasted 26-12-2011]

Ch Chasse-Spleen 2002

Medium red young robe. Lovely smoky, cigar box scents with blackcurrants and plums and a lanolin back note. Grippy tannins; good fruit; elegant with a nice mineral backbone. Good length. Classic Bordeaux but too tannic on the finish. Interesting that this bottle had more elegance than the one opened seven weeks before; tannins the same … Continue reading

Ch Chasse-Spleen 2002

Very dark plum red. Big plums and blackcurrants. Tannin obvious; dark berries, especially blackcurrants; quite big and tannic still but opens in the glass. Finish quite tannic but some fruit sweetness in balance as well. May need more bottle age. Moulis, Bordeaux, France 17/20 [tasted 01-10-2011]

Ch Segur de Cabanac 2000

Deep colour with just a hint of brown. Smoky nose, quite perfumed with violets obvious. Balanced, very good clean fruit, plums and blackcurrants and some lovely smoky mushroom in the background. Florals on the finish, quite long. Lovely delicious wine. Saint-Estephe, Bordeaux, France 18/20 [tasted 18-09-2011]

Ch Bourgneuf 1996

Mid deep red with amber edge. Quite dusty, fragrant but delicate, some light plum notes. Palate reflects nose. Red fruits (especially plums) come through on the finish. Good wine but fading. Pomerol, Bordeaux, France 16.5/20 [tasted 17-09-2011]

Ch Potensac 1996

Lovely deep red – far younger than its age. Lovely nose too. Cedar, red fruits, some blackcurrants and truffles. Round, rich, mellow. Lovely balance. Fruit, acid and oak all in balance. Finish is plums, berries and cedar with a touch of fresh earth. Lovely. Should have bought more. Medoc, Bordeaux, France 19/20 [tasted 25-06-2011]

Ch Mylord 2005

Deep plum red with plums on the nose too (and blackcurrants). A little rich mushroom and some florals – Malbec? Tannins forward but good round fruit. Lovely ripeness and balance. A good if simple wine. Finishes well, with red fruits lingering. Entre-Deux-Mers, Bordeaux, France 16.5/20 [Tasted 02-07-2011]
