Palliser Estate Pinot Noir 2006

Medium-deep red with a touch of brick. Lovely ripe nose, dark cherry, cedar and chocolate. Ripe, full wine with great pinot character and oak and acid in balance, and secondary earth/forest notes there. Long complex finish. Wonderful! Martinborough, New Zealand 19/20 [tasted 13-01-2012] http://www.palliser.co.nz Advertisements

Church Road Tom McDonald Chardonnay 2006

Yellow gold with a hint of green. Mealy notes, ripe stonefruits, smoke and nuts; wonderful complex nose. Complexity on the palate too with primary stonefruit, malo and oak with secondary characters that reflect the nose: smoke, nuts and bready yeast. Long finish that’s in balance. If I had to be picky there is a little … Continue reading

Dry River Gewürztraminer 2006

Lovely golden colour. Rich, deep, sweet nose with rose petal florals and Turkish delight with a little sweet vanilla. Wonderful rich, raisiny, thick palate with ripe peaches and rose/Turkish delight but all in balance. Long, long finish. This is a delicious aged Gewürztraminer. Martinborough, New Zealand. 19/20 [tasted 05-11-2011]

Pegasus Bay Pinot Noir 2006

Good medium red with just a hint of amber on the edge. Bright dark cherry fruit but obvious alcohol heat. Palate full, rich and balanced – better than the nose promised; good meaty and toasty notes; cherries and black fruits. Full long finish but the heat comes through again at the end. Waipara, New Zealand … Continue reading

Framingham Montepulciano 2006

This is very very good. Lots of purple/violet, still quite a deep and young robe. Nose: bright fruit with berry (blackberry and some currant), cherry and hints of spice – pepper, cinnamon… perhaps mixed spice. Lovely palate – fruit and tannin in balance, some prune and cherry going on. Savoury. Marlborough, New Zealand 18/20 [tasted … Continue reading

Margrain Chenin Blanc 2006

Touch of sweet straw, grass, and citrus and stone fruits on the nose; mirrored on the palate, with lovely lemon and lime. A hint of sugar and then clean acid cutting through. Fruit stays on the finish. Maturing nicely. Easily another two to three years. Martinborough, New Zealand 18/20 [tasted 14-08-2010]

Schubert Cabernet/Merlot 2006

Delicious blackcurrant and perfume nose – almost like there’s a touch of Cab Franc in there. Palate matches nose – delicate, black fruits, plum, and vanilla and chocolate notes. Taninn and acid are balanced. Alcohol heat there just a little too much (14.5% – my guess was 15). Great wine – not a fruit bomb. Glad I have … Continue reading
