Ch Segur de Cabanac 2000

Deep colour with just a hint of brown. Smoky nose, quite perfumed with violets obvious. Balanced, very good clean fruit, plums and blackcurrants and some lovely smoky mushroom in the background. Florals on the finish, quite long. Lovely delicious wine. Saint-Estephe, Bordeaux, France 18/20 [tasted 18-09-2011]

Ch Bourgneuf 1996

Mid deep red with amber edge. Quite dusty, fragrant but delicate, some light plum notes. Palate reflects nose. Red fruits (especially plums) come through on the finish. Good wine but fading. Pomerol, Bordeaux, France 16.5/20 [tasted 17-09-2011]

Pegasus Bay Dry Riesling 2007

Medium deep green-gold. Touch of kerosene and some light florals. Good aged character, petrol, lemon and stonefruit blossoms. Long finish with good acid and lovely marmalade honey. Waipara, New Zealand 18/20 [tasted 10-09-2011]

Alluviale Cabernet/Merlot/Franc 2003

Good deep red robe. Big nose of fruit, but elegant with it, red fruits and berries, florals and violets, plums and blackberries, very good. Plums, blackberries, blackcurrants and some lovely smokiness and cedar. Long, long finish with fruit lingering. Good structure and smooth tannins. Gimblett Gravels, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand 19/20 [tasted 08-09-2011]

Gibbston Back Road Pinot Noir 2010

Very light. Gentle red fruits and cherry nose. Delicate and feminine wine. Sweet fruit. Lacks complexity, but in character and clean. Good length. Easy drinking. Young vines I’d guess and needs time in bottle I suspect. Gibbston, Central Otago, New Zealand 15/20 [tasted 22-07-2011]

Ch Potensac 1996

Lovely deep red – far younger than its age. Lovely nose too. Cedar, red fruits, some blackcurrants and truffles. Round, rich, mellow. Lovely balance. Fruit, acid and oak all in balance. Finish is plums, berries and cedar with a touch of fresh earth. Lovely. Should have bought more. Medoc, Bordeaux, France 19/20 [tasted 25-06-2011]

Drappier Cuvee de Millenaire 2000 (1993 vintage)

Very pretty straw gold. Fine bead. Fresh bready yeast, quite floral. Palate has green apples with acid obvious. Refreshing, bready yeast again, apple blossoms and peach. Good wine let down by the finish – too short and sharp. Magnum. Urville, Aube, Champagne, France 16/20 [Tasted 16-07-2011]

Ch Mylord 2005

Deep plum red with plums on the nose too (and blackcurrants). A little rich mushroom and some florals – Malbec? Tannins forward but good round fruit. Lovely ripeness and balance. A good if simple wine. Finishes well, with red fruits lingering. Entre-Deux-Mers, Bordeaux, France 16.5/20 [Tasted 02-07-2011]

Ch d’Armailhac 1994

Quite deep robe, amber edge moving to the centre.  Eyes say ‘drink up’! Fruit reserved at first, dusty foresty but clean nose. Opens to reveal plums, blackcurrants and cherries. Mellow palate, classic Bordeaux age. Good acid and tannins – moreish. Medium finish. A nice surprise for my last bottle. Pauillac, Bordeaux, France 17.5/20 [tasted 25-06-2011]
