Elderton Barossa CSM 2000

Bright clear red, no age showing. brambles on the front, then pepper and black berries/fruit and plum – but way too hot. Heat on the palate, the lovely savoury berries; it actually works – plums, blackcurrants, crisp apple and gooseberry (weird but true). Finish is short but balanced. Dusty, mellow, fruity, nice. Ch Potensac 1996

Lovely deep red – far younger than its age. Lovely nose too. Cedar, red fruits, some blackcurrants and truffles. Round, rich, mellow. Lovely balance. Fruit, acid and oak all in balance. Finish is plums, berries and cedar with a touch of fresh earth. Lovely. Should have bought more. Medoc, Bordeaux, France 19/20 [tasted 25-06-2011] orContinue reading

Ch d’Armailhac 1994

Quite deep robe, amber edge moving to the centre.  Eyes say ‘drink up’! Fruit reserved at first, dusty foresty but clean nose. Opens to reveal plums, blackcurrants and cherries. Mellow palate, classic Bordeaux age. Good acid and tannins – moreish. Medium finish. A nice surprise for my last bottle. Pauillac, Bordeaux, France 17.5/20 [tasted 25-06-2011] … Continue reading

Palate reflects nose: fruit, florals with forest flavours. Mid length finish. Nice wine. Decant this one. Maranges, Burgundy, France 16/20 [tasted 10-06-2011] Bought from Caro’s Wine Merchants.
